Erik Ravelo, a Cuban artist, arranged the harrowing combinations in order to highlight different ways children are both directly and indirectly harmed by adults.
A child in his underwear is placed on the back of a priest marks the sexual abuse scandals that have plagued the Catholic church in recent years.
The other instance where sexual misconduct comes into play is the photograph where a young girl is placed on the back of a man in glasses and a hat holding a camera.
The eerie image is meant to represent pedophilia, with the camera adding an element of child pornography.
Other photos are more direct in their meaning, with one hooded shooter with three guns responsible for the young girl in a school uniform on his back, making her the victim of gun violence.
A number of the photos are named after the countries where the abuses take place- adding to the direct assault on the crimes. The gun violence photo is named USA, while the traveling pedophile is called Thailandia.
All of the children in the project, named 'Los Intocables', have their faces blurred.
The name, which translates to 'the untouchables', implies that these problems- like obesity and nuclear war- are issues that could unfortunately effect the most innocent members of society across the globe.
This is not the first collection with a social awareness theme that the 35-year-old artist has created.
According to his website, a number of his projects at an Argentinian advertising agency were commissioned by the World Health Organization to focus on themes such as violence, road safety, and the dangers of tobacco. (via Daily mail)
